The Aptos Mariners’ hot streak and their season came to an end as they were topped by the Soquel Knights 6-1 on Thursday night at Harvey West Park.
The Mariners hopes of bringing home a piece of the Santa Cruz Coastal Athletic League title were all but eliminated in the first inning of the game when they gave up to six runs to the Knights.
With the Knight’s ace Chris Viall on the mound it was an almost impossible task for the Mariners to make any kind of come back effort.
Viall went the distance and struck out 12 Mariners on the night.
Tommy Leonardini took the loss for the Mariners. Steve Eichhorn went 2-3 and scored the only Aptos run of the night.
