WATSONVILLE A Watsonville man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol late Thursday after he smashed his truck through a utility pole.

California Highway Patrol Officer Bradley Sadek said Sage Coleman, 38, was driving a 2008 Ford F350 pickup westbound on Buena Vista Drive near Freedom Boulevard around 9:40 p.m. when he collided with a power pole and sheared it off at the ground, Sadek said.

Coleman attempted to flee the scene in his disabled vehicle but lost control and collided with a parked 2000 Plymouth Voyager with one occupant, Adela Clendenin, 62. She suffered minor injuries.

After attempting to flee, Coleman remained at the scene of the collision.

While speaking with the investigating CHP Officer, Jacob Gonzales, Coleman attempted to strike Gonzales, Sadek said. Gonzales was able to avoid being struck by the suspect.
