WATSONVILLE — After no decision was made by the Planning Commission, a proposal to add a new 7-Eleven store on Freedom Boulevard with alcohol sales will seek approval from the Watsonville City Council on Tuesday.
The existing 1,266-square-feet closed gas station, on the corner of Freedom Boulevard and Alta Vista Avenue, is proposed to expand to 2,363 square feet as a 7-Eleven store and include beer and wine sales.
The proposal was brought to the Planning Commission on April 2. However, three of the seven commissioners were absent due to illness or travel, and no decision was made on the proposal after the commissioners voted 2-2. Four "yes" votes are required to pass a proposal.
Shashi Sharma, who submitted the proposal, felt that he did not receive a fair hearing because of the lack of commissioners present, according to a report by Marcela Tavantzis, community development director, and Keith Boyle, principal planner.
