WATSONVILLE — The Santa Cruz County Bank Arts Collaborative will honor the late artist Manuel Santana with "Viva Santana," an exhibit showcasing the works of the artist across the bank's five branches.

Santana, who died in 2008, was a well-known local restaurateur and owner of Manuel's in Aptos and Jardines de San Juan restaurants. He was instrumental in establishing the Cabrillo Music Festival, where he served six terms as president.

Santana studied art at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and then privately with Marin Lubner, Morton Dimonstein and Arnold Mesches. In 2008, Santana was named “Artist of the Year” by the Santa Cruz County Arts Commission.

The artwork in the bank's branches is on loan from the Santana Gallery in San Juan Bautista. The exhibit encompasses more than 60 original works, dating from the 1950s to 2006, and consists of acrylics on canvas, acrylics on paper, acrylics on masonite, inks on paper, wood sculptures, as well as ceramics.

"Viva Santana" opens Monday and will be shown across the bank's five branches: 595 Auto Center Drive, Watsonville; 7775 Soquel Drive, Aptos; 819 Bay Ave., Capitola; 720 Front St., Santa Cruz; 4604 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley.

A reception will be held June 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the bank's Santa Cruz branch.
