WATSONVILLE — A team of 22 firefighters from Santa Cruz County left Friday afternoon to help fight the huge fire in Venture County, making the eight-hour drive to Southern California.
It was unclear what their task will be, but the call for mutual aid among Cal Fire divisions is common when large fires are raging, said Aptos/La Selva Division Chief Mike Conrad.
Other agencies that made the trip were Scotts Valley, Branciforte, Zayante and Central Fire.
Conrad said the shifting winds have caused the blaze to spread north and south, a change from the westerly direction it was previously moving.
“A shift of wind can change everything,” Conrad said. For the complete article see the 05-04-2013 issue.
