Sheriff’s Office offers reward for elusive suspect

Posted: Tuesday, Apr 30th, 2013

Dimitri Storm

SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to a suspect that has long eluded them.

Dimitri Storm, 42, is wanted for numerous burglaries, robberies and vehicle thefts in Santa Cruz County and elsewhere. He has also been spotted in Monterey County.

Storm is known for burglarizing vehicles, and for stealing license plates, which he places on other vehicles that he steals. He has continually managed to elude police, despite being spotted several times.

Storm was driving a stolen Jeep Cherokee on Palo Colorado Canyon Road April 18 when he nearly struck Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies. Storm exited onto Highway 1, the MCSO said.

By the time deputies turned around and reached Highway 1, they were unable to locate the Jeep.

Storm, who is listed as a transient, was caught March 31 allegedly burglarizing a home in the Santa Cruz Mountains after a resident found him exiting his house on the 3800 block of Chardonnay Road with a gym bag full of stolen items.

Storm allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim, dropped the gym bag and sped away in a silver Lexus. The victim threw a glass bottle at the Lexus, which smashed the front window.

He fled in a vehicle with a stolen license plate, deputies said.

The Lexus was found later at a home on Hall Ranch Road near Jarvis Road, where a light blue 1997 Ford Explorer was stolen in its place.

Investigators have connected those crimes to a string of auto burglaries that occurred in Ben Lomond between March 31 and April 1.

Investigators are working with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office after Storm was stopped there in the Ford Explorer. The Deputies attempted to arrest Storm, but he resisted and threatened to kill the deputies, stating he had a gun. Storm got away from the deputies, and the Explorer was later found abandoned.

Later that night or early morning, Storm allegedly stole a 2009 blue Toyota Highlander.

Investigators believe Storm has shaved and changed his appearance. He is known to steal license plates and use them on stolen vehicles.

In an interview with Storm’s mother, KSBW reported that he is schizophrenic and extremely unpredictable.

In Sonoma County, Storm is wanted on suspicion of felony assault on a peace officer, evading authorities and possession of a stolen vehicle. He is wanted in Santa Cruz County on suspicion of armed robbery, burglary and auto burglaries, deputies said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 471-1121, the Investigation Division at 454-2311, or the anonymous tip line at 454-2847.
