WATSONVILLE — The annual Earth Day/Day of the Child unfolded Sunday in Ramsay Park, followed by a giant Earth Day student celebration Monday at Pajaro Valley High School.

Thousands of people were treated to warm, sunny conditions as they explored the dozens of information booths, arts and crafts stands and various games at Ramsay Park.

The theme of the day was simple: Water. Demonstrations were staged to educate youths and their parents about conserving water and that Pajaro Valley household tap water is healthy to drink.

“We’re here today to encourage people to drink tap water,” said Beau Kayser, of Watsonville’s water management. “We’re trying to break the myth that you can’t drink tap water. It’s safe and it is more regulated that bottled water. It’s also cheaper than bottled and it is healthy.”
