WATSONVILLE — Santa Cruz resident Brian Berman brought his federal income taxes to the Watsonville Post Office Monday, getting them in before the April 15 deadline passed.

Berman attributed the last-minute drop-off to his accountant, who returned the completed forms to him late. He also attempted to complete his California taxes online, but was thwarted when scores of others doing the same thing crashed the servers.

“They make it hard for me to give them my money,” he said.

Berman joined thousands of other people who were paying taxes at the last minute.

According to Carmela Lizaola, a supervisor at the Watsonville Post Office, most of the last-minute filers are those who owe money to the government and want to hold onto theirs as long as possible.
