PAJARO After a long, "bumpy" road to get there, Monterey County officials and others who took part in the journey celebrated the groundbreaking of the Pajaro Neighborhood Park Saturday.

"What once was an equipment storage field and is currently just a simple patch of dirt will soon be the jewel of Pajaro," said Steve Caron, Pajaro/Sunny Mesa Community Services District director.

The 4.9-acre parcel at 2 San Juan Road was previously owned by Granite Construction and used as a storage yard.

Caron described the path to the groundbreaking as a "somewhat bumpy road."
