Off-duty CHP officer dies in San Miguel

Posted: Thursday, Mar 28th, 2013

SAN MIGUEL — An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer died Thursday when the car he was working on fell on him.

CHP public affairs officer Robert Lehman said the officer, who officials are not naming until proper notification of kin has been completed, was at his San Miguel home working on a personal vehicle Thursday morning when the accident occurred.

“He was a real nice guy and it is a very sad day,” Lehman said. “I had met him a few times and he was just a friendly person.”

The officer, who once worked as a training officer, had a wife and two children.

He worked for the King City CHP and had been with the CHP for about 15 years. As of press time it was not clear if the officer had worked for other CHP districts.

No details have been released as to the nature of the accident.

This story will be updated when more information is released.
