WATSONVILLE — The Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force made a staggering 43 arrests during a two-week countywide sweep. With a goal of violence suppression, Operation Take Back included 26 people arrested with gang associations. Twelve of those arrested were on probation or parole with all but one of them having gang associations. Eight arrests were juveniles with gang associations.
Three of the juvenile suspects were arrested in relation to the Feb. 28 stabbing murder of 20-year-old Felipe Reyes in Watsonville, said Mario Sulay, GTF commander. A fourth juvenile suspect was arrested, along with adult gang members, at the scene of a felonious and violent gang assault of a non-gang involved victim on Feb. 28 in front of the Valero gas station in Watsonville.
Operation Take Back called for allied county law enforcement agencies to supplement the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force to maximize proactive enforcement and maintain the GTF’s ability to be a “force multiplier” to support investigative services countywide.
