There was plenty of excitement as the boys were rejoined with their family in San Jose. They even took time to thank Watsonville Police Officer Elizabeth Souza (right) and other law officials. (Contributed photo)

WATSONVILLE A Watsonville Police officer has helped reunite a mother and her two sons more than two years after the boys were kidnapped, Watsonville Police Chief Manny Solano announced Wednesday.

Officer Elizabeth Sousa took the initial report when the boys were taken, then used her bilingual skills to work with the FBI as the case continued. She traveled with FBI agents on March 1 to the Mexican border, where the family was reunited.

It was pretty awesome, she said of witnessing the reunion. I cant explain how I felt.

Jesus Salinas and Patricia Delatorre of Mount Vernon, Washington, were arrested in the case. A warrant has been issued for Maria Guadalupe Valenzuela Castaneda of Juarez, Mexico. All are Mexican nationals.
