WATSONVILLE — A branch of Comerica Bank was robbed at gunpoint Monday. Watsonville Police Sgt. Eric Taylor said two men wearing masks walked into the bank in Watsonville Square, at 1998 Main St., at 2:20 p.m.

“Both males had handguns that they displayed during the robbery,” Taylor said. “Nobody in the bank was hurt and no shots were fired. There were approximately six customers and 10 employees inside the bank.”

The suspects performed a "take-over" style robbery where they hollered out for everyone in the bank to lay on the floor. While one suspect kept a gun trained on those present the other man gathered up cash from tellers, Taylor said.

Javier Becerra, who uses a walker, said he was a customer in the bank at the time making a deposit for a church where he is a pastor.

“They took the cash I was depositing for the church,” he said. “They pointed a gun at us. It was very frightening. I was scared.”

The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The pair sped off from the area on Green Valley Road toward Freedom Boulevard in a silver 2000 Cadillac Escalade that had been stolen. Witnesses managed to copy a license plate.
