SCOTTS VALLEY — The sweeping search for a missing Scotts Valley man who recently suffered a head injury came to a swift halt Friday as police learned the man mysteriously resurfaced in Salt Lake City.

Search and Rescue teams had fanned out for two days across a wide swatch of wooded and hilly terrain near the Dobie Lane home of Matthew Abraham, 20, who was last seen at 9 p.m. Wednesday, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Clarke.

Abraham suffered a head injury March 9 at Henry Cowell State Park in Felton when he toppled from his mountain bike off of a 75-foot railroad trestle and landed in a patch of sand. He was treated and released. However, Abraham later posted a video of himself talking on YouTube and complained of head pain and not being able to recall much.

“I can’t really read and write at the moment,” Abraham said on YouTube. “It’s really frustrating. I don’t really remember much of Friday any of last week. I was out for about 24 hours. I am starting to recover slowly. I am having a lot of trouble with simple tasks. It feels like somebody dug pliers into my skull and they’re trying to tear it open.” Abraham’s left eye appeared swollen shut in the video. Clarke said Abraham had departed without his wallet and cell phone and did not leave a message for his parents at the Dobie Lane residence.

By 5 p.m. Friday the search and rescue incident command center in Scotts Valley got word that Abraham, whop had apparently taken a bus out of Santa Cruz, had been located and was safe and in custody of police in Salt Lake City, said Lt. Steve Carney.
