Posted: Friday, Mar 1st, 2013

Resident of Watsonville

April 18, 1924 – February 28, 2013

Myrtle L. McEntee passed away at her home on February 28, 2013 after a long illness at the age of 88. She was born in Watsonville, moved to Soledad for her growing up years, and returned to Watsonville when she married John McEntee in 1949.

Family was an important focus of her life. She loved gardening and had a special Begonia area that was enjoyed by many. In her earlier years she enjoyed her Women’s Bowling League. She was a big baseball fan for many years, attending the 1956 World Series in New York witnessing the perfect game pitched by Don Larsen. She and her husband were 49er season ticket holders for decades and enjoyed many years of motor homing and fishing, being members of the Watsonville Hub Club.

Myrtle was a fourth generation to this area, with her great grandparents settling in San Jose on Monterey Road in 1852. Family still own part of the original homestead property. She was very close to her mother, Sadie Meginness Sorenson, who grew up in Watsonville on Beach Road and returned in 1987, until her passing in 2002 at 100 years of age.

Myrtle was succeeded in death by her husband of 45 years, John T. McEntee in 1992. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Ron) Obertello of Hollister and Janet Heien of Aptos; three grandchildren: Toni Ricca of Newbury Park, Kelly Schlatter of Pacific Grove and Tom Sglav of Simi Valley; three great grandchildren, Brittney Sglav, Zachary Schlatter and Bryan Ricca.

Friends are invited to a graveside service at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the following organizations that Myrtle supported: Meals on Wheels, 1777-A Capitola Rd., Santa Cruz, CA 95062; Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, 580 Airport Blvd., Watsonville, CA 95076; and Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, Watsonville, CA.
