PALO ALTO — The St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High girls basketball team is in the final four of the Central Coast Section Division V tournament.
The Sharks got there by defeating Santa Catalina 57-40 on Saturday evening at Castilleja High.
With the win, St. Francis will face Notre Dame of Salinas, 38-33 winners over Anzar, Tuesday back at Castilleja at a time to be determined.
The Sharks started off slow, allowing Santa Catalina to get two runners to go down. But they never trailed after freshman Cameron Croghan nailed a three-pointer to give the Sharks a 5-4 lead with 4:47 to go in the first quarter.
Santa Catalina, which had just six players for the game, stayed close to St. Francis in the first half, getting contributions from all of the players.
With two minutes to go in the second quarter, the Sharks turned it on, going on a 9-0 run to close out the first half. Lauren Price was the standout in the run, scoring five of the nine points.
She got it started by hitting three of four free throws and later kept it going on a give-and-go pass from Sonja Schumake.
St. Francis went into halftime leading 33-16.
