WATSONVILLE — Rolling Hills Middle School sixth-grader Harleigh Doermann started taking yoga classes when she needed a way to increase her flexibility for gymnastics.
It has since become an important part of her life.
“I liked it so much I started going to the adult class,” she said. “It’s fun, and it’s a little bit of a challenge.”
A year and a half later, she has improved so much that she has been invited to a national competition in New York City in March.
The National Yoga Asana Championship, sponsored by USA Yoga, a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of developing and promoting Yoga Asana, also known as yoga postures, as a sport.
