WATSONVILLE — Barbara Jean Peterson Murphy, resident of Watsonville, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was 79.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Pasadena on March 18, 1933, to Marvis and Elmer (Al) Peterson. She was raised in the Northern California redwoods and moved to Santa Cruz County at the age of 18. She worked as a telephone operator for Pac Bell. In 1953 she met the love of her life, Matthew Murphy. Mrs. Murphy’s world was her three girls, their husbands, and her grandkids. She also enjoyed playing the card game, Pedro, and gardening.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her children, Joanie (Ron) Hargis, Kathy (Harlan) Schenbaum, and Chris (John) Hargis; sisters, Johneta Windbigler and Dorthy (Dot) Ferrel; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew; and her brother, Wesley Peterson.
Per request of the family services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
