Climate action rally in Watsonville this weekend

Posted: Friday, Feb 15th, 2013

WATSONVILLE — Inspired by what is being called the largest climate rally in history taking place in Washington D.C. this weekend, a group of local residents will converge on the Watsonville City Plaza on Sunday and join the cry of tens of thousands of people from across the nation in demanding solutions to climate change.

Organized by two local teachers, the rally at the plaza will coincide with Sunday’s Forward on Climate rally in D.C — a project of the Sierra Club, the Hip Hop Caucus and 350.org — where demonstrators will call on the government to reject the Keystone XL pipeline project and institute limits on power plant pollution.

Solidarity rallies have been planned in cities and towns across the country. In California, environmental and social justice groups will be sponsoring rallies in Los Angeles, Monterey, San Diego and San Francisco.
