WATSONVILLE — The Watsonville City Council received a positive report on the city's finances for the first time in nearly four years Tuesday.
According to City Manager Carlos Palacios, the city has a General Fund surplus of more than $800,000 in the budget.
"We're actually on the upswing," he said. "We still need to improve, but we are doing much better than we were the last three years."
During the last fiscal year, which ended in June, the city’s general fund balance increased to $4.3 million, a $2.7 million increase from the previous fiscal year.
Administrative Services Director Ezequiel Vega attributed that in part to the city’s revenues outpacing its expenditures, which brought in an additional $850,000.
