Yamato Nishihara passed away at a local convalescent hospital in Watsonville on Tuesday, January 29, 2012. He was 90.
Mr. Nishihara was born in Watsonville to Sanjiro and Kohide Nishihara. He was a local strawberry grower in this area for 45 years. He attended the Watsonville Buddhist Temple and was a member of the J.A.C.L. Senior Center. Mr. Nishihara loved to stay busy and enjoyed raising his cows, going to the casinos; and in his younger years, go hunting and fishing. He was also proud of his service to his country in the Air Force.
Mr. Nishihara is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eiko Nishihara of Watsonville; son Mark Jun (Shirley) Nishihara of San Jose; brother, Mike (Ruth) Nishihara of San Mateo; grandson, Brandon Nishihara and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mitts Nishihara and two sisters, Nancy Hirahara and Chisato Mochimaru.
Funeral services will be held at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held privately at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Mehlís Colonial Chapel was entrusted with funeral arrangements.For the complete article see the 02-12-2013 issue.
