PEBBLE BEACH — Michael Quinn of Watsonville came to the 3M Celebrity Challenge at Pebble Beach Wednesday with a stack of photos, hoping to get them all autographed.

Just after the stars began warming up on the putting green, Quinn had managed only to get musician Huey Lewis’ signature. He was still hoping for that of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

But his lack of autographs didn’t seem to bother Quinn, who said his great uncle was crooner Bing Crosby, who hosted the first National Pro-Amateur Golf Championship in Rancho Santa Fe in 1937.

“I try to keep our family’s side of it alive,” Quinn said.

The Celebrity Challenge has been a traditional lead-in to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am since its inception. The event pits well-known actors, singers, sports figures against each other in a light-hearted shootout, with the winner receiving thousands of dollars for the charity of their choice.
