PEBBLE BEACH – San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh announced earlier this week he will join the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am field when play begins Thursday morning on the three courses.
Harbaugh will compete less than a week after coaching the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, which the 49ers lost 34-31. He held an end-of-season news conference on Tuesday morning in Santa Clara.
Harbaugh will team up with pro Jason Day, who recently had a top-10 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla. Day is ranked 73rd in the PGA Tour.
Harbaugh and Day are part of the foursome that includes pro Matt Bettencourt and San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain.
The quartet will tee off at 8:22 a.m. Thursday at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. On Friday at 10:01, they tee off from the 10th tee at Spyglass Hill. Their third round will begin at 9:06 a.m. at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
He won't be the only football coach in the field. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, an AT&T Pro-Am regular, will compete alongside pro Ricky Barnes this weekend.
Belichick will follow the same course schedule as Harbaugh, starting at Monterey (8:44 a.m. Thursday) before going to Spyglass (8 a.m. Friday, 10th) and then Pebble Beach (9:28 a.m. Saturday)For the complete article see the 02-07-2013 issue.
