WATSONVILLE — The Grizzlies entered Monday night’s game having not scored in the past 177 minutes of game time.

It took two minutes to end the drought.

Luis Rodriguez and Jonathan Cordova each scored a goal in the first half, and the Pajaro Valley High boys soccer team defeated Salinas 2-0 at Emmett Geiser Field to remain in second place in the tough Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 5-2-2 in the division, while Salinas fell to 3-4-1.

Pajaro Valley shoved pressure down the Cowboys’ throat in the second half, and then turned to their defense to prevent the visitors from getting on the board.

In 14 games this season, the Grizzlies have allowed seven goals total. They’re the only team in the county and one of three teams among the four leagues in the southern region of the Central Coast Section to allow less than 10 goals total.
