Aurelia A. Reyes entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, January 14, 2013 surrounded by her family at the age of 86. She was born in Zacapu, Michoacán, Mexico on November 12, 1926.
At the age of 33, she became a widow from her first husband. Not alone, she had 6 young children to care of. Being a very strong woman, she moved to Watsonville in 1962 with only one thing in mind, to provide a better life for all her children. In the United States, she endured many hardships which only made her stronger in pursuing her dreams.
She was a hardworking and caring woman who worked in the agricultural fields and later at J.J Crosetti cannery for 32 years. She was very proud of all her accomplishments, especially bringing her family to the States. She had great gratitude to this country as well as family and friends who helped her throughout.
Later in life, Aurelia met her loving and surviving husband Gabriel Reyes, and embraced his four sons Joe, Gabriel and Jeffrey Reyes from Santa Cruz and Tony Reyes from Redwood City giving them love and advice as she would with her own children. She was a devoted wife, a mother to 6 beautiful children; Esther Quiroa of Long Beach, Arcelia Vergara of Hollister, Arturo Vargas of Wilmington; Santos Vargas and Maria E. Marquez of Watsonville, Felipe Vargas of Downey, 19 Grandchildren, 31 great Grandchildren and 2 great-great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters and is survived by her siblings, Socorro Aguilar of Mexico and Augusto Aguilar of South Gate.
Aurelia had deep faith in God and was a very spiritual person. She will be remembered by her genuine character, great sense of humor, passion for life, value of education, generous heart, her ability to share words of wisdom and justice and her great love for all her family, husband and children. She will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St. in Watsonville. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00, Rosary to begin at 6 p.m. The funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, January 21st at 11 a.m. at Holly Eucharist Church in Corralitos, with burial follow at Pájaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road in Watsonville.
