AROMAS The anchor of the Aromas community, the Aromas Community Grange, turned 100 this year, and this milestone was celebrated Sunday night, complete with birthday cake, party balloons and hats, as well as reminiscing on its past and announcing plans for the future.

"This is the heart of our community," said Michelle Faeth, financial secretary for the grange for more than 25 years.

The grange serves as the meeting hall for the 4H Club, the Aromas Hills Artisans and more, along with hosting yoga, hula and tai chi classes, and monthly breakfasts, dances, concerts and other activities.

"We try to make it a center for the community," Faeth said.

During the centennial celebration Sunday, where about 160 people expected to gather, Faeth said, community members browsed tables full of Aromas Grange memorabilia from the last 100 years, while also learning about the recent accomplishments of the grange and its past.

Grange leaders also announced their plans for a $250,000 upgrade to the kitchen, which will bring it up to date, Faeth said.

The celebration offered an open mic period, where community members shared stories about the old days of Aromas.
