Posted: Monday, Jan 14th, 2013

The Madrigal Family lost our beloved daughter, sister, and aunt SRA Edith Madrigal on Jan. 9, 2013, after a hard fought battle with breast cancer.

Edith is survived by her parents, Ofelia and Rigoberto Madrigal of Watsonville. She was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Mendoza. Surviving siblings are sister Elizabeth Madrigal and brothers Salvador, Ignacio, Sergio, Eddie and Beto Madrigal. She is survived by seven nephews, 10 nieces, four grand-nephews and five grand-nieces.

Edith was born Aug. 2, 1977 at Watsonville Hospital. She graduated from Watsonville High School in 1995. She moved to Fresno to attend college and soon after enlisted in the United State Air Force. She achieved the rank of Senior Airman. She served a total of six years in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves. Edith was very proud to serve her country.

Edith worked with the Santa Cruz County Human Services Department, where she developed deep, meaningful relationships with hundreds of her co-workers in a close-knit, family environment. During her time with the department, Edith was grateful for the generosity of co-workers who were extremely supportive, caring and loving during her tenure.

Family and friends remember Edith as a loving, outgoing, dynamic personality. She was an eternal optimist, appreciative of life and capable of keeping everything in perspective. Edith never let anything get her down.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends. She loved her trucks (her "babies").

The Madrigal family wants to thank those in and outside of the community for all of their love, support and prayers during this difficult time.
