SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz Police Department is looking for a man they say sexually battered a 12-year-old girl Friday afternoon as she walked home from school.
According to the SCPD, the girl was walking on the 500 block of Walnut Street approximately 2:30 p.m. when the suspect approached the girl from behind and grabbed her buttocks.
The suspect was seen a second time in the area just after the attack. A witness took a photo of him as he fled up a flight of stairs leading to Grover Lane and Towne Terrace. Several officers responded to look for the suspect, but he was not located.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 21 — 28 years. He is 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighs about 280 pounds. He was last seen wearing a brown T-shirt, black, Dickie-style pants and wire-rimmed glasses.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigation Division at 420-5820, or the anonymous tip line at 420-5995. Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 9-1-1.
