MVC routs North County to stay 1 game back of 'Catz

WATSONVILLE — While the Monte Vista Christian girls basketball team got back to its winning ways, Watsonville continued its roll.

Both teams won Thursday night, 48 hours after the two teams met in a tense, emotional battle which Watsonville prevailed in the final seconds.

The Wildcatz improved to 3-0 in the Monterey Bay League’s Pacific Division as they defeated host Monterey 56-33.

Meanwhile, back at Watsonville, Monte Vista Christian disposed of North Monterey County 71-14.

With Monte Vista Christian’s win, it means that Watsonville is the last undefeated team in the division. Monte Vista Christian improved to 2-1 in the division.

Both teams were feeling positive Thursday.

Monte Vista Christian’s players didn’t allow a field goal for the first 11 minutes of the game.

Sydney Beadle scored 27 points and had 10 rebounds for the Mustangs. Myckenzie Toler had 15 points. Savhanna Nevin made her first three shots and finished with eight points.

In Monterey, Watsonville got 18 points from Mandy Cabanlit as the Wildcatz won three in a row for the first time this season.
