The Santa Cruz Warriors were outscored by 26-14 in the final eight minutes of the game and lost to the Canton Charge 104-93 on Thursday in the final day of the NBA D-League Showcase Series in Reno, Nev.
The loss was the Warriors’ fourth in a row as the team dropped to 9-6 on the season. It also dropped the Warriors out of first place in the West Division standings.
Canton won for the sixth straight time.
The Warriors had a 75-69 lead going into the fourth quarter, and Chris Johnson immediately sank two free throws.
Canton, the D-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers, spent the next four minutes pulling even with Santa Cruz.
The Charge took the lead for good with two free throws by former Temple University star Michael Eric.
The Warriors got to within one point a couple of times, but Canton responded each time.
Five Warriors scored in double figures. Taylor Griffin had 23 points, and Stefhon Hannah had 20 points. Chris Johnson tallied 17 points, Cameron Jones had 13 points, and Justin Johnson put in 10 points.
Travis Leslie did not play.
Eric had a double-double, putting in 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Gibson had 23 points to lead the Charge.
Santa Cruz returns to Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday night for a game with the Tulsa 66ers.
