APTOS—After waiting in the wings for six months, Santa Cruz County District 2 Supervisor Zach Friend took his spot on the raised stage on Tuesday – an experience he called “humbling.”

“It is a very humbling experience to officially start here and participate officially as a representative of the 2nd District,” Friend wrote in an email.

“I know that there will be a learning curve, but I’m confident that with the help and partnership of our community I will be able to bring a balanced approach to our needs,” he wrote.

Friend was elected to the board of supervisors during a special election in June 2012 and since then has been busy meeting with department heads, touring county facilities, meeting with community groups and studying the budget.

“I’m looking forward to taking a long-term view on the issues and helping constituents with their needs,” wrote the former press information officer and crime analyst for the Santa Cruz Police department.
