CORRALITOS — Café Musique and Joe Craven will perform a house concert on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m., minus the actual home.

Instead, the concert will take place at the Corralitos Cultural Center, but the small venue gives off the feeling of witnessing a concert at someone's home, said Watsonville musician Michael Gaither, who hosts the music series at the center.

"It's kind of like singing a show in your living room," he said.

The small stage allows for the audience of roughly 50 people to get up close with the musicians.

"It's a very intimate evening," Gaither said. "You get to schmooze with the musicians."

Café Musique, from San Luis Obispo, is a five-member band whose members perform with a variety of instruments, including accordion, violin, guitar and more. The quintet blends the styles of gypsy, tango, classical and folk.

Musician Joe Craven is known for his ability to make music from found objects, such as tin cans and more. More traditional instruments he performs with are the mandolin, fiddle and violin.

Craven and Café Musique are currently promoting their upcoming trip to Portugal in May 2013.

The music series at the Corralitos Cultural Center, inaugurated by Gaither and and his wife in May 2010, features a mix a "big and little" names every other month, he said.

Noting the lack of venues in South County, Gaither entertained the idea of hosting concerts at his home, until he discovered the Cultural Center.

Since then, in addition to local artists, Gaither has booked out-of-area musicians to a strong response: Besides the regulars, about a third of the audience to each concert is new to the series.

"I really appreciate how many people are coming out and discovering the city," he said.

Local bluegrass favorites Bean Creek will play at the Cultural Center in March.

With the upcoming concert on Jan. 19, Gaither strongly recommends those who plan on attending to make a reservation by emailing corralitosmusic@gmail.com, or calling 588-9354. A $25 donation is asked.

The Corralitos Cultural Center is located on 127 Hames Road, Corralitos. For information, visit www.corralitoscultural.org.
