WATSONVILLE — Phil Ferracane, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at his home surrounded by family. He was 85.
Mr. Ferracane was born in Chicago on Jan. 16, 1927, attending school there through high school, where he was a star player on the football and baseball teams at Lane Tech High school. After graduation he went to work at Jewel food stores as a meat cutter. He relocated to San Francisco in 1955, spending a few years working for Safeway, then Albertsons in Santa Cruz before settling in Watsonville. He married Margaret Pollock in 1958 and worked at Purity stores, Serve U Market, Lamberts Market and later owned and operated Watsonville Meat Lockers. He retired in 1988.
Mr. Ferracane is survived by his wife, Margo; son, Dave (Peggy); daughters, Karen Major (Willie), and Nancy Ferracane; and six grandchildren.
A private family-only service will be held with Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in charge of those arrangements. At Mr. Ferracane’s request there will be a celebration of his life Saturday at the Watsonville Elks Lodge from 12-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Mr. Ferracane to Hospice of Santa Cruz Co. Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Pat and Debbie Carroll of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
