WATSONVILLE — When Watsonville City Councilman Felipe Hernandez came to the Beach Street Cafe for breakfast Saturday, it was a chance to both get a meal and to relive part of his childhood.
Hernandez said he remembers coming to the restaurant with his father when he made apple deliveries to a nearby warehouse.
“I’m really glad it’s open again,” he said.
The open house at the cafe came after it was closed for more than a year. Owner Flavia Ordoñez said that customers began coming in soon after she opened the doors at 6 a.m.
Several people sat on stools along the polished wood counter, while others conversed over their breakfasts at the tables.
Despite the fact that the opening was also a chance to train her staff of four waitresses, two cooks and a prep cook, the morning was running smoothly, she said.
