WATSONVILLE Documentary producer Bob Gliner traveled across the nation, filming high schools that build curriculum around solving problems their communities face.

His travels included a stop at Watsonville High School, where students in the interdisciplinary Video Academy were studying Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal. Through their history, English, science and media production classes, the students attempt to come up with a New Deal for Watsonville, addressing issues such as high unemployment.

Gliner's "Schools That Change Communities" will air on KQED Plus on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.

The film is the third education documentary by Gliner, a longtime producer based in Santa Cruz County.
