WATSONVILLE — Noelia Bettencourt died on Thursday, December 20, 2012, of a rapid and devastating illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Bettencourt, a native of Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, was born October 6, 1935. She immigrated to California in 1966, and was employed at the Watsonville Green Giant plant for 23 years. She was a strong, hard-working woman, yet quiet, gentle and loving; she always put her family ahead of herself, even to her last days.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Miguel Bettencourt, of Watsonville; her daughter, Maria Azevedo, son-in-law Richard Azevedo, two grandchildren, all of Gilroy; sisters, Natal Nascimento of Sao Jorge, Elena Dias of Newark, and Esmenia DaSilva of Monterey; and brothers, Gene Lopes of Aromas, and David Lopes of Sao Jorge.
A Rosary and Mass will be held on Friday at noon at the Our Lady Help of Christians (Valley Catholic Church) in Watsonville. A private burial will follow. Arrangements were entrusted to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to a charity of your choice, in Mrs. Bettencourt’s name.
