WATSONVILLE A group of teenagers from the Watsonville Riders Bike Club put the "drive" in toy drive Thursday when they rode down Freedom Boulevard to Jacob's Heart Children's Cancer Support Services with customized bicycles, towing a makeshift trailer filled with toys behind them.

The toy collection, now in its second year, was a group effort by the Watsonville Riders and the Impalas Bike Club of Santa Cruz County.

The goal was to collect 175 toys for Jacob's Heart, but they already surpassed it, said Angel Martinez, president of the Impalas Bike Club.

"Let's help out the community and give them a Christmas they never had," he said.

All the toys were bought from the club's own money.

"They pooled the money out of their own pockets and their own hearts," Martinez said.

Susan Osorio, executive director of Jacob's Heart, said the toy drive is a "tremendous support" for the families.
