WATSONVILLE—Mesa Verde Gardens, the local nonprofit that manages three community gardens and ten preschool gardens in Watsonville has announced two new projects — a community garden at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds and an orchard at the Lutheran Community Church on Alta Vista Avenue.

The proposed 1/2-acre garden at the fairgrounds is a collaborative effort between Mesa Verde Gardens, the fairgrounds and the Agricultural History Project.

“It is a great partnership,” said Dave Kegebein, manager of the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds. “It will give people an opportunity to raise food for their families and further educational activities that we have at the fairgrounds.”
