Monte Vista Christian’s Nick Matiasevich was named the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division’s Offensive Most Valuable Player earlier this week by a vote of the coaches.
Matiasevich threw for more than 2,000 yards as he helped the Mustangs finish with eight wins and a CCS appearance for a second consecutive season.
The Most-Outstanding Running Back Award went to both Rufino Calderon of North Monterey County and Roger Contreras of Watsonville. Calderon was North Monterey County’s primary running back, rushing for more than 600 yards. Contreras finished with more than 1,000 for the season and had two amazing back-to-back games, one in which he broke the Santa Cruz County single-game rushing record.
Monte Vista Christian’s David Hightower was named the Utility Player of the Year. He caught 13 of Matiasevich’s 22 touchdowns on the season.
Seaside’s Michael Turner and Jacob Jakubowsky were named co-Most Valuable Player.
