Safeway updates public

APTOS — Safeway corporation held a public forum at Rancho del Mar Shopping Center in Aptos Thursday, where the company is planning a major facelift.

Officials said the outreach efforts — which include another meeting in December — was a way to keep the community up to date on the evolving plans.

Charlie Eadie of Hamilton Swift & Associates, the Santa Cruz firm hired to design the plans, said they were redrawn recently after residents expressed concern that the original plans too closely resembled a big-box store.

“Community feedback said they wanted it to be unique to Aptos,” he said.
