SANTA CRUZ — The cast of the Santa Cruz Follies will welcome the holiday season and put people into the Christmas spirit when they perform "'Tis the Season," a musical presented by the Market Street Theater, on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Past, present and future Follies cast members will perform Christmas medleys during the approximately hour-long show, and Santa Claus might even make an appearance, said director Jo Luttringer.
"It's a tradition here that we have a Christmas show," she said. "It's kind of a warm hometown kind of a show and we hope to have a nice crowd."
The Santa Cruz Follies, formed 57 years ago as "Seniorama," perform small shows throughout the year. A yearly showcase performance is presented, such as this year's "Copacabana Finale," performed in September.
Luttringer has directed several of the Follies' smaller shows, she said. With only about seven rehearsals in preparation for "'Tis the Season," the 20-member cast's experience in performing with each other makes the director's job go smoothly, she said.
"The cast is very experienced," Luttringer said. "They know this stage. It makes for a really kind of friendly environment."
"'Tis the Season" will be performed at the Market Street Senior Center, 222 Market St. in Santa Cruz. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
Those who attend the performance can expect "some laughs, some surprises and cookies at the end," Luttringer said. "It's just a fun hour."
