Shaver, Tobin named co-MVPs

For the second consecutive year, two volleyball players from the same team share Most Valuable Player honors in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.

Harbor High’s two outside hitters, Kelsey Shaver and Molly Tobin, were named co-MVPs earlier this week by a vote of the coaches.

Shaver and Tobin helped Harbor win the team’s first SCCAL championship in four years. The Pirates went 14-0 in league play and also captured the SCCAL postseason tournament title.

The Pirates are scheduled to play in the Northern California semifinals tonight in Vallejo.

Soquel middle blocker Sarah Savoca and Aptos outside hitter Jenna Belton were named co-Juniors of the Year. Sophie Ortiz, an outside hitter for Aptos, was named Freshman of the Year.

Soquel coach Kamala Sipin was named Coach of the Year.

Belton and setter Shannon Cotton were the two Aptos girls named to the all-SCCAL team. Savoca and libero Cassidy Donaldson were also all-league selections. Harbor had four representatives.
