WATSONVILLE Watsonville Police are searching for a driver who hit a boy riding a bicycle in front of Landmark Elementary School on Ohlone Parkway and fled the scene Wednesday evening.

According to emergency dispatchers, the boy was flown out by air ambulance helicopter at around 5:30 p.m. His condition was unknown as of press time.

A witness on the scene described the vehicle as a navy green sedan driven by a woman.

The driver stopped after hitting the bicyclist, but "when the officers got here, she took off," he said.

The license plate was ripped off of the vehicle during the impact, the witness said.

Police shut down Ohlone Parkway from the intersection of Harkins Slough Road to slightly past the crime scene for about a half hour. Many officers and firemen rushed to the scene, and police were still searching for the suspect at press time.
