WATSONVILLE — Gregorio Lara, of Watsonville, died Sunday, November 11, 2012, in his home with family by his side. He was 94.
Mr. Lara was born on Nov. 9, 1918 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. He emigrated from Mexico to Oregon in 1942 before finally choosing to settle his family in Watsonville. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, extensive wisdom, story-telling, and his on-going passion for learning until the end of his time.
He is survived by his wife, Francisca Lara; children, Socorro Ochoa, Teresa Osorio, of Los Angeles; Esther Gallardo; Addy Zaragoza; Jose Luis Lara, of Santa Ana; Maria Vazquez; Primo Lara; and Rosie Camacho; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, throughout California.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the Ave Maria Chapel with recitation of the Holy Rosary commencing at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Valley Catholic Church, interment to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Pioneer Cemetery.
