WATSONVILLE The $12 million Salinas Road/Highway 1 interchange project, funded by a bond passed in 2006 to relieve state highways of congestion, will wrap up in early December, said Sharon Gavin, community outreach coordinator of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County.

The project, which began in April 2009, also includes three diamond-type ramps and one southbound loop onramp.

A new frontage road is nearly complete from Jensen Road to Salinas Road west of Highway 1 to provide access to local businesses, a new park-and-ride lot, a bicycle lane, bus transit and school bus stops.

Plans are under way, Gavin said, to set a ribbon cutting ceremony.
