WATSONVILLE — Watsonville Police have released a surveillance photo of a man suspected of robbing the East Lake Avenue branch of Citibank Nov. 1.

Investigating officers learned the unidentified suspect walked up to the front entrance of the bank and placed a white plastic Halloween mask over his face just prior to entering the bank, said Sgt. Saul Gonzalez. Once inside the suspect displayed a handgun and pointed it at several bank employees, while ordering them not to move. The suspect then demanded that the bank employees turn over the cash in their teller drawers. There were no customers inside of the bank.

The employees complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then left the bank, at 760 East Lake Ave., on foot, Gonzalez said.

A witness saw the suspect run from the bank and on to Tuttle Avenue. The witness followed the suspect and watched him get into the front passenger seat of a green Honda sedan being driven by another male. The vehicle then left the area.

An extensive search for the suspect was conducted by WPD Officers, as well as Deputies from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force with negative results.

None of the bank employees were injured during the robbery.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the Watsonville Police Investigations Bureau at 768-3350 or the Watsonville Police Anonymous Tip line at 768-3544.
