Weekend CCS games set in volleyball, water polo

The Harbor and Soquel high school girls volleyball teams know who they will face in the Central Coast Section Division IV quarterfinals following Wednesday’s first-round results.

Soquel, the fourth seed, will play host to fifth-seeded Harker at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Harker defeated Carmel 25-14, 25-16, 25-18 to advance to the quarterfinals. With the win, it improved to 21-6.

Harbor, the top seed in the Division IV bracket, faces Mercy of San Francisco at 7 p.m. Saturday in its own gym.

Mercy eliminated Scotts Valley 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24 on Wednesday and will have to face a Santa Cruz County team for a second consecutive time.

The other matches involving local teams remain unchanged.

Aptos will face San Mateo in a Division III match, Anzar travels to Palo Alto to battle Castilleja in a Division V contest and Pacific Collegiate goes to Salinas to face Division V top seed Notre Dame. All three matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.


Water polo

• Soquel: The Knights’ boys and girls squads will play their CCS Division II quarterfinal games at Christopher High on Saturday as part of a doubleheader.

The boys team will go first as it faces fifth-seeded Valley Christian at 10 a.m.

Soquel has not played in about a week, earning a bye as the No. 4 seed. Valley Christian defeated Sobrato 15-2 on Wednesday.

At 11:30, Soquel’s girls team will take on Castilleja. The fifth-seeded Knights defeated Harker 11-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.

• San Lorenzo Valley: The Cougars will play their first-ever CCS quarterfinal game at 3:20 p.m. Saturday against second-seeded St. Ignatius of San Francisco.

The game is scheduled to take place at St. Francis High in Mountain View.
