PAJARO Five people were injured in a four-vehicle pile-up on San Juan Road early Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol officer Rosendo Hernandez said a male driver of a Honda sedan, with a male passenger, was attempting a left turn from eastbound San Juan Road into an agricultural field at 8:30 a.m. near San Miguel Canyon Road. A male driver of a Chevy Silverado pickup, who was also traveling eastbound, most likely failed to notice the stationary Honda and plowed into the rear of the car. The impact thrust the Honda into the westbound lane where an empty big rig dump truck was traveling. The big rig, with a male driver, struck the red Honda, Hernandez said. The big rig driver then took evasive actions and steered his rig off the two-lane road into a drainage ditch, tipping the rig onto its side.

Meanwhile, a female driver of a white PT Cruiser slammed into the green Chevy pickup. All vehicles sustained major damage and the eastbound lane of San Juan Road was blocked for several hours.

North Monterey County Fire was joined by Aromas Tri-County Fire and American Medical Response paramedics.

Hernandez described the injuries as moderate.

The big rig was from Perry Trucking in Hollister.
