Jessica Fore’s hopes of reaching the CIF state championship in girls golf came to an end Monday afternoon in Stockton.
The Monte Vista Christian junior shot a 5-over 77 in the Northern California girls golf championship at Brookside Country Club and finished tied for 21st overall.
She missed the cut to advance to the state championship by five shots.
Starting on the back nine, Fore immediately was over par, as she bogeyed the par-five 10th hole. Fore made it back up on No. 14 with her only birdie of the day.
She ran into a lot of trouble on No. 16, where she triple-bogeyed the par-five hole.
Fore was 4-over on the four par fives combined and 1-over on the other 14 holes.
Fore notched a par on nine consecutive holes.
She ended up 10 shots back of St. Francis Mountain View’s Nancy Xu and Kathleen Scavo of Justin-Siena in Napa.
Eight of the 83 players finished under par.
Three players from the Central Coast Section qualified for the state championship: Xu, Anna Zhou of Gunn (1-under) and Cupertino’s Grace Park (even par).
