WATSONVILLE Firefighters had their hands full all at once Monday afternoon when three fires broke out in less than an hour.

The first blaze was reported at 1275 Green Valley Road at 3:06 p.m., when flames were spotted inside an abandoned recreational vehicle.

Firefighters from Pajaro Valley and Watsonville got a handle on the blaze within minutes and no injuries were reported.

At 3:45 p.m., power lines dropped from a pole at 160 San Andreas Road, triggering a half-acre wild-land blaze. Flames readily crawled up into a stand of eucalyptus trees but no structure was threatened. Firefighters from Cal Fire at Pajaro Dunes and Aptos La/Selva tackled that fire with the hour. The smoky blaze sent a towering column of brown and reddish smoke over the Pajaro Valley.

Then, at 4:06 p.m., Aptos/La Selva firefighters responding to the San Andreas event spotted another recreational vehicle ablaze at 66 Fiesta Drive off of Buena Vista Drive. They were able to quell the fire before it spread into surrounding brush. The vehicle was stationed up a driveway on private property.

All incidents are still under investigation.

A Pacific Gas & Electric spokesperson said that as of 5 p.m., there were no customers out of power due to the line down incident. However, a few traffic control lights were out on West Beach Street around 4 p.m. and the power blinked off a few times in the Westridge Business Plaza on Harkins Slough Road.
